Chair, CBI East Midlands
As chairman of CBI East Midlands, I am delighted to welcome a new cohort of senior business representation on to the Regional Council.
The council plays a vital role in ensuring that the CBI’s national campaigns reflect the views of businesses in the East Midlands, as well as guiding the CBI’s lobbying activity on regional issues. We live in difficult times that will only be improved by delivering private-sector growth. We need to do this by building business confidence through emphatic measures such as investment in infrastructure, improving access to growth capital for small and medium-sized firms and kick-starting the housing market.
I represent the region on the CBI’s Chairman’s Committee, which is chaired by Sir Roger Carr who in turn represents the CBI on the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Group. My challenge is to ensure I am fully briefed so as best to represent business in the East Midlands and ensure any growth measures we call for boost confidence and deliver jobs in our region. With a membership spanning all sizes of firm and commercial sectors - from manufacturing and engineering to retail, leisure and professional services - the council truly is the voice of business in the East Midlands.
