Sharing Economy UK Manager

Role Summary:

Based at our Cannon Street office, Sharing Economy UK is responsible for representing the sharing economy community, and lobbying for changes to protect consumers and sharing economy businesses.

Working within the CBI’s innovation team, this is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to develop and deliver the ambitious plans of the membership and SEUK board. It will be your job to help grow and deepen our membership base, working to attract new members and manage external relationships in this sector. This individual will work closely with senior business leaders, policy-makers and regulators to ensure the right political decisions are made for our members in this sector. There will also be a strong element of account management to the role.

This team will lead the SEUK’s intelligence on the political and economic factors impacting businesses within the sharing economy sector. You will liaise daily with policy, events and media colleagues for up to date information and with your sector knowledge you will devise and develop plans to enable sharing economy businesses to become more successful. You will research and analyse organisations, to identify issues and needs, and make some targeted approaches of your own.

Key Responsibilities:

Developing and delivering a sharing economy sector business plan

  • Driving increased membership retention and satisfaction by successfully implementing a compelling business plan for the sharing economy sector – based on research and analysis, designing events, publishing data, policy, networking and intelligence
  • Supporting the sharing economy board (and wider membership) by convening, organising and leading regular meetings
  • Providing strategy advice to the board – helping to define priorities and deliverables
  • Conceiving and executing a programme of value-add events for members concerning topics of interest – and securing third party sponsorship for those events as necessary
  • Tracking engagement, policy developments and issues of interest to members to inform lobbying strategy and briefings
  • Influencing broader CBI messaging on digital technology, disruption and innovation, linking with the wider Innovation Policy Team

Managing external relationships

  • Develop a strong understanding of the economic and political environment in the sector, becoming the ‘go-to’ expert on sharing economy businesses
  • Managing day-to-day contact with key government officials and departments – e.g. BEIS, HM Treasury, HRMC, UKTI – preparing talking points, memos and submissions to relevant consultations with input from the membership and board
  • Representing SEUK at conferences and other external events, as well as building a compelling programme of engagement with the sector
  • Working with corporate communications colleagues to manage press relations for the group
  • Writing tailored briefings, sales materials and bid documents for sharing economy organisations and internal teams, supporting both senior colleagues and your own recruitment activities
  • Assist with the implementation and evolution of SEUK’s innovative “Trustseal” – the trust kitemark for the UK sharing economy – and supporting the work of its Advisory Board (a group of external experts from relevant regulatory and related fields

Knowledge & Experience

What an individual must know or understand to be able to fulfil the role’s requirements

  • Degree educated
  • Knowledge of and interest in business affairs, national and regional policy
  • Experience of writing sales or commercial documents
  • Experience working with external stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of UK and EU regulation impacting on the sharing economy
  • Numerically literate

The successful candidate will be interested in sharing economy businesses, policy and current affairs and will have an excellent analytical ability to help them understand potential members and be able to put together targeted sales campaigns. They will be a confident communicator with an excellent business writing style.

They must be proactive, pragmatic and be able to meet tight deadlines while maintaining excellent attention to detail. They should have a flexible approach and enjoy working with other people. Experience of account management would be helpful but experience in a client facing role is essential. Above all they should have a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, the ability to manage multiple projects/demands at times and the professionalism to be a credible representative for the Sharing Economy UK and the CBI.

Contract Type

Initially this position will be a 12-month fixed term contract.
