Confederation of British Industry (CBI) London office: Work Placement Summary

The CBI is the UK's leading business lobbying organisation and a powerful voice in UK policy debates. With offices throughout the UK, Brussels, Washington, Beijing and Delhi, the CBI has a truly global footprint and promotes its members’ interests at regional, national and international level.

The CBI’s Innovation team works to create the conditions that enable the UK to be globally competitive on technology and innovation policy. We work with business leaders and the government to support the development of new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, promote investment in research and development, and drive policies which support business innovation and digitisation.      

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with an interest in business and politics to join the Innovation team. This three-month paid placement offers a fantastic opportunity to work with leading businesses to help shape and influence the government’s digital and innovation policy agenda

Core duties

Based out of our London office, and reporting to the Senior Policy Adviser, the successful candidate will be benefit from and be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and research of policy developments in digital and innovation space
  • Drafting policy briefings for CBI colleagues to support policy lobbying activities in government
  • Drafting written communications and position papers for CBI members
  • Organisation of and participation in meetings and roundtables with visiting members and government stakeholders
  •  Attending external events and meetings with CBI colleagues

  • Excellent research and analysis

  • Strong interest in business and politics
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Wllingness to be pro-active, to adapt and to be flexible
  • High level of computer literacy

Application details

The position is paid at London Living Wage and offered on a flexible basis. We are happy to take applicants who wish to work either on a part-time or full-time basis in order to ensure the most suitable candidate can take up the role. The placement will last up to three months, with candidates ideally able to start immediately.
