EU employment law

An increasing proportion of the body of employment law in the UK is determined in Brussels

High-profile examples include the Working Time Regulations and the recently implemented Agency Workers Regulations, which acts as a brake on jobs. The CBI's lobbying in Europe focuses on ensuring that flexibility is promoted effectively. We work with sister federations across Europe to promote a European business perspective through BusinessEurope.

The European Commission is pursuing a busy employment and social affairs agenda, much of which is based upon a model of collective rights which is out of line with the employment relationship that we see in Britain today. With this busy agenda, it remains vital that the CBI is engaged in the European as well as domestic political arena.
