Having a healthy workforce will boost productivity and employee morale. But this can be a complex area for employers to navigate and uncertainty over their responsibilities can lead to over-compliance with regulations, to the delight of the media and the detriment of risk-management. All regulation must be proportionate and have proved safety outcomes: providing the right protections for the risk involved.
CBI policy
CBI attention this year has largely focused on ensuring that changes being made to the UK's health and safety framework deliver for businesses. We have called for improvements to the regulatory regime through the Löfstedt review and voiced businesses' views on the new funding model for the HSE. With the majority of new regulation coming from Europe, the CBI is well placed to be the voice of UK employers. By utilising our position on the Commission's advisory council on safety and health, and as a member of BusinessEurope, we influence the EU policy debate.
