Transport
The CBI works for investment in transport - the backbone of UK industry
Transport overview
Transport links are the backbone of the UK's infrastructure "ecosystem" - we rely on them to move goods and people, to trade and to export - it is no wonder 80% of our members tell us transport links are significant to their investment decisions. But we also hear the concerns of business about transport capacity issues - nearly half of firms rate the UK's transport networks as below average by international standards. We put this down to lack of capital investment over the years (compared with our international competitors), congestion on roads and concerns over the future of aviation capacity.
CBI policy
The main spotlight is on attracting the necessary investment needed to upgrade our transport infrastructure so that we meet growing demands. So we are working with our members, government and other stakeholders to help formulate policies that can attract investment and the delivery of transport infrastructure, and to advise government on the prioritisation of public capital spending on transport.
