Policing
A frontline force: more effective policing is necessary if the public is to remain protected as spending is cut.
Policing overview
The police - like other parts of the public sector - face a challenge of reducing costs without comproimising the service they deliver. Individual police forces will need to achieve the same or better outcomes with less resource in the future and continue to provide the visible reassurance the public expects.
Spending on the police has increased 19% in real terms over the last decade. It will be more constrained in future but there is considerable scope for forces to find savings without compromising front line policing, drawing on the experiences of forces working with CBI members to deliver a range of back office and support services - such as HR and finance services - at significantly reduced costs.
