Public Services Strategy Board
The PSSB leads the CBI's campaign to improve the performance and value for money of the UK's public services
The Public Services Strategy Board aims to provide constructive ideas to improve the performance of our schools, hospitals, local government and other services. Its members are chief executives and leaders of private companies and social enterprises which are successfully designing and providing a wide range of public services and support functions across the UK. The Board's ideas draw on the extensive experience of independent providers in rethinking how public services can operate more effectively and efficiently. Its membership includes:
Adrian Ringrose, Chief Executive, Interserve plc - PSSB Chairman
Interserve is one of the world's leading construction and support services companies. Adrian is responsible for developing and implementing its business strategy. He joined Interserve (then Tilbury Douglas plc) in December 2000 as Business Development Director of Interservefm and a year later was promoted to Managing Director. In January 2002 he joined the Board of Interserve Plc, becoming Deputy Chief Executive in January 2003 before assuming the role fully the following July.
Adrian is past President of the BSA, a member of the CBI's President's Committee, a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute.
Mark Lovell, Executive Chairman, A4e Ltd
A4e is a market leader in global public service reform. It works with governments and the private and third sectors to design, develop and deliver social inclusion programmes that benefit individuals, organisations and communities. It operates from over 200 locations across the UK, Israel, France, Poland, Germany, Australia and South Africa and is one of the UK's premier organisations in the delivery of social change services on behalf of government through its five prime contracts to deliver the Government's Work Programme to assist the long-term unemployed back into work.
Mark has overall responsibility for group strategy, ensuring sustainable long-term business growth in existing and new markets; he is responsible for ensuring A4e's vision of improving people's lives by delivering social change. He leads the PSSB's work programme on new models of delivery.
Mel Ewell, Chief Executive, Amey plc
Amey supports public and private organisations that serve the public. Its approach is based on partnership with the public and third sectors in education, transport, local government and justice services. The company operates partnership with local government, such as the one with Herefordshire Council improving roads maintenance and delivering environmental benefits. It manages the estate for the Police service of Northern Ireland’s 180 operational sites. Through its Geo consortium, Amey now also provides prison escort and custody services in courts on behalf of the MoJ, .
Mel Ewell joined Amey in 2001, overseeing the company's service delivery and its strategic development. He became chief executive in 2003 and successfully guided Amey through its sale to Ferrovial.
Peter Rogers, Chief Executive, Babcock International Group
Babcock International Group is a leading support services company with worth £1.2bn, ranking it amongst the top 200 quoted companies in the UK. Its customer base is largely composed of government departments and organisations whose activities are heavily regulated by government, including the Ministry of Defence, Royal Navy, National Grid and the Scottish Executive. Itis undertaking the assembly and integration of the UK’s new aircraft carriers as part of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, and also provides training support to all three armed services.
Peter Rogers joined the group as chief operating officer in June 2002; a year later he became group chief executive officer.
Kevin Craven, Chief Executive, Balfour Beatty Support Services
Balfour Beatty provides value-added engineering, construction and service skills to customers for whom infrastructure quality, efficiency and reliability are critical. Its Support Services business offers ongoing operation and maintenance of assets after they have been constructed, together with business services outsourcing. The business comprises Balfour Beatty's utilities, facilities management, rail renewals and highways management activities.
Before taking on his current position in late 2010, Kevin was managing director of Balfour Beatty WorkPlace. Originally trained as an engineer, Kevin was previously managing director of specialist markets at Aramark.
