Papworth Trust: helping to transform lives of disabled jobseekers
When you meet jobseekers at charity Papworth Trust, their enthusiasm about the prospect of finding a job is clear
They
really appreciate the Trust's support for their search - each year
around 8,000 people work with Papworth's dedicated advisers to find
employment.
Most jobseekers come to Papworth Trust through Department for Work and Pensions programmes such as Flexible New Deal and Pathways to Work. It works in partnership with many voluntary organisations, such as Shaw Trust, as well as private sector welfare-to-work providers such as Ingeus, Reed and Avanta to deliver these programmes, which will be replaced by the Government's new Work Programme this summer.
With all jobseekers, enthusiastic and highly motivated advisers provide in-depth personalised support tailored to meet their specific needs. They also encourage clients to support and learn from each other - for example, ex-managing directors made redundant during the recession have helped other jobseekers to draw up business plans.
With the support of specialist advisers one unemployed man is contemplating starting up his own burger van, building on his experience of catering for his local cricket and football club. Another jobseeker with a mental health condition is receiving support to find work, while advisers have taken the time to help potential employers understand her health and the reasonable adjustments she might need to help her be successful in a role. Thanks to Papworth Trust she is now hoping to move into sustained employment, offering support to individuals who have experienced a similar situation to her own.
