Bupa: reducing hospital waiting times
Electronic patient records and an SMS system which provides real-time information about queues at local hospitals are helping service users make an informed decision about where to undergo treatment
Hospital
de Manises, in Valencia, is a pioneering public-private partnership
that has seen Bupa take responsibility for the healthcare of an
entire region. Built and managed by Sanitas, Bupa's Spanish
business, the hospital covers 20 primary health centres, 2
specialised health centres, an intermediate care hospital and 1,000
health professionals working in 50 specialities.
An investment of €30m euros in advanced medical devices has delivered ground-breaking innovation. Fully electronic patient records, telemedicine and mobility equipment have revolutionised the patient experience.
This model allows Sanitas to attract leading professionals to its workforce, control care costs, generate government savings, keep down waiting times and be pioneers in the development of medicine. Hospital de Manises has also established a long-term partnership with Spain's public health system to ensure efficiency, innovation and quality.
Because of these and other innovations, the Deputy Health Minister of Valencia says that the region's privately run hospitals are 25 per cent more efficient than their state equivalents.
