Boris Johnson pledges to prioritise roads in election campaign

The London Mayor, Boris Johnson, said in a speech at the Mansion House yesterday that he will put improving London’s roads at the centre of his election manifesto.Part of his strategy will be to tackle traffic congestion in the east by building a new Thames tunnel and making the capital en even more cycling-friendly city.
This is great news for business – in the latest CBI/KPMG London Business Survey, respondents said that roads are the worst performing transport mode in the capital, with 47% judging the network to be deteriorating. CBI London has been lobbying strongly for greater attention to be paid to London’s roads and welcomes this commitment by the current Mayor to prioritise the issue if he is re-elected in May.
