Last week, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), in partnership with CBI members RBS and NatWest, presented an event titled “Explore Asia - a world of opportunities for UK companies” in London.

The event featured a series of speeches by UK business leaders and entrepreneurs including Dragons' Den star Theo Paphitis, Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon (above), RBS chief economist Andrew McLaughlin and Chris Dodson, the Mortimer Technology Group chairman, followed by a keynote address from Vince Cable, the UK business secretary.

Mr Cable emphasised that the UK is well-placed to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities in Asia and provided some highlights on what the UK government is doing to help British business in the region.

The CBI deputy director-general, Neil Bentley, introduced the Business Secretary. Mr Bentley said that securing growth despite uncertainty in the eurozone means that UK businesses have to be bolder in identifying opportunities in emerging markets.
