Unitary Patent for Europe on agenda at Baroness Wilcox meeting

CBI reiterates concerns of industry surrounding unitary patent

Baroness Wilcox

Matthew Fell, the CBI’s director of competitive markets, met the Minister for Intellectual Property, Baroness Wilcox, above, this week to discuss the development of the Unitary Patent for Europe.

Mr Fell said the CBI was pleased that discussions to reach an agreement for an appropriate patent proposal will continue under the Danish Presidency - but added that although industry was still keen to see a number of longstanding issues resolved. These include a longer period for the transition to exclusivity, the location of the courts and judicial practices.

The CBI will continue to stress that no deal is better than a bad deal on the unitary patent.
