CBI Director-General visits London Boat Show
On a visit to the 2012 Tullett Prebon London Boat Show, John Cridland, CBI Director-General, said small and medium-sized companies are key to the international success of the UK marine industry, especially in emerging markets.
Mr Cridland accompanied senior representatives from the British Marine Federation on a visit on Tuesday to companies including Oyster Marine, Fairline, Sunseeker and Raymarine.
Mr Cridland said:
“The supply chain of the UK’s marine industry is the bedrock of why we can sell multi-million pound yachts to high-wealth consumers in parts of the world other than our traditional markets, because they want to buy British brands.”
International trade in the UK marine industry was valued at £1.073bn in 2010/11, which was 37% of the industry’s total revenue. In UK boat manufacturing, the international market accounts for 64% of revenue.
