The Great North Revolution

The north east was at the forefront of the first industrial revolution and we want to be there again!

In conjunction with The Journal, we recently launched the Great North Revolution campaign to develop the NE economy by spearheading a second industrial revolution.

The project seeks to engage the wider business community in horizon scanning about future market opportunities linked to a small number of emerging innovative sectors where the north east has the opportunity to compete globally. These sectors have been identified as:

  • Low-carbon transport – particularly electric vehicles
  • Clean energy – wind, biomass, photovoltaics, clean coal
  • Healthcare/biosciences – especially stem cell research
  • Digital
  • New materials – printable electronics, nanotechnology.

  • To take full advantage of these opportunities we must ensure every business in the region focuses on how it can align its business model to the supply chain potential of these new industries. And that we use early buy-in to support these industries in their infancy and encourage public/private sector investment.

For further information, please contact Sarah Green on (0191) 255 4410 or sarah.green@cbi.org.uk or visit www.nebusiness.co.uk/revolution.
