Innovation, science and technology newsBusiness-University collaboration guideWe have produced a guide for members on business-university collaboration for research and innovation. The guide is based on a year-long project conducted by the Inter-Company Academic Relations Group (ICARG), a CBI working group of "inward knowledge transfer" professionals, who are experts in managing their companies’ relationships with universities in the UK and elsewhere to maximise the benefits of these links. The guide explains what these benefits are and contains advice and information on how other companies may be encouraged to take advantage of the resources which UK universities offer. The CBI Higher Education Task Force report, Stronger Together, urged that the REF should be designed so that academics who want to work with business are not dissuaded by fear that this may be at the expense of other activities. Our response to the consultation makes clear that research which is driven purely by curiosity is of great importance and highly valued by many business sectors. But to achieve its objectives the REF must help researchers to regard excellence in impact as an appropriate goal. Read our response (PDF 347KB).
