Committee members emphasised the need to support knowledge intensive businesses as IP will be a key driver of economic recovery and of the UK’s future international competitiveness. They also stressed the need to ensure elements of the IP framework work effectively domestically and internationally.Patent protection essentialThe CBI has told the EU Commission’s Pharmaceutical Sector Inquiry that a strong patent system is important to businesses of all types. In response to concerns that patent protection is used to delay the entry of competitor products, we emphasised that patents are vital to encourage businesses in every sector to make substantial investments in R&D.
