The CBI Brussels Club
Calling all CBI members with links to Brussels...
The CBI Brussels Club differs from a CBI Committee in that it is not a formal policy-making committee of the Confederation of British Industry - hence the name 'club'. But it does help CBI members with offices in Brussels to meet regularly and exchange information and views, particularly on EU legislative proposals and developments, with each other as well as with the CBI Brussels Office staff. These views can also of course be fed, via the CBI’s Brussels Office, into the CBI policy-forming process in the UK.
Members
CBI members with a permanent office in Brussels, or with someone who travels to Brussels on a regular basis to lobby on EU issues, is welcome to join the CBI Brussels Club. You will be added to the mailing list held in the CBI Brussels Office, and there's no charge for membership.
CBI Brussels Club meetings
The core activity of the CBI Brussels Club is the series of Brussels Club meetings. These take place 4-5 times a year, with each meeting devoted to a debate on a particular policy issue of topicality at EU level. A high-level guest speaker - usually from the European Commission or European Parliament - is invited to initiate the debate with a presentation to members. An open and informal policy discussion then follows. For details of meetings, email Emma Watkins.
Networking events
In addition to the regular Club meetings, other events (receptions and dinners etc) are organised in order to maximise networking opportunities between members and with EU officials and MEPs. These also provide an opportunity for Brussels-based members to meet CBI staff over from the UK.
Information exchange
The Brussels Club can be used by members and CBI staff to keep Brussels-based CBI members informed of what they and the CBI is doing, both in the UK and in Brussels. The CBI Brussels Office also provides a point for members lobbying in Brussels to feed in their comments on CBI policies and activities.
