CBI Scotland responds to latest Scottish GDP figures
Hugh Aitken, CBI Scotland Director, has responded to the latest GDP statistics for Scotland.
Hugh Aitken, CBI Scotland Director, said:
“Second quarter growth of just 0.1% is disappointing and shows that the Scottish economy still has some way to go before we can start talking about a meaningful recovery.
“Growth in Scotland still trails the rest of the UK, which recorded growth of 0.3% for the same period, reinforcing the need to remain focussed on productivity enhancing measures, creating a competitive tax regime and ensuring Scotland is a great place to do business.
“The Scottish economy faces a number of clear and immediate challenges, with a slowing UK economy compounded by continued low oil prices and Brexit-related uncertainty. The best way to build resilience is for business and government to work together to create a positive, pro-business environment that can drive inclusive growth and deliver benefits to the whole of Scotland.”
