Labour market statistics for June 2018 to August 2018, show employment decreased by 5000 and unemployment by 47,000.

Our response to labour market statistics

Matthew Percival, CBI Head of Employment, said:

“The strongest pay growth in a decade is a step in the right direction, but household budgets remain under pressure.

“Productivity is key to improving long-term pay growth. Last week’s data showed a small improvement, but it remains the UK economy’s achilles heel. The Chancellor’s budget is an opportunity to increase business investment in training, equipment and crucially, digital and new technologies which will help raise productivity.”
