The CBI outlines its recommendations for boosting adult education during the Parliamentary Education Select Committee.
Last week, the CBI’s People and Skills Director, Matthew Percival attended the Parliamentary Education Select Committee, to provide further evidence into their ongoing inquiry into adult skills and lifelong learning.
The committee, chaired by former Skills Minister, Robert Halfon, focused on the current state of adult education and asked for thoughts on the National Skills Fund – the government’s flagship retraining policy and £3bn spending pot for the course of this parliament. The committee also questioned the merits of skills tax credits and individual learning accounts as mechanisms to improve financial support.
Matthew presented the CBI’s vision for reskilling the UK, outlining several recommendations that will be included in an upcoming CBI report, in collaboration with McKinsey, launching in a few weeks’ time. The committee showed interest in this work and requested a follow-up.
