Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th President on 20 January. It was an unusual day for many reasons. The ongoing pandemic necessitated a pared-down inauguration, with the hundreds of thousands of people that normally attend such an event replaced by hundreds of thousands of American flags. In addition, Donald Trump shunned the many traditions around the transfer of power and fled the city prior to the inauguration rather than hosting the incoming first family at the White House prior to the swearing in.
