Phew! The CBI’s Road to Net-Zero conference is done for another year. The fact that we brought more than 1000 business people together to discuss the private sector contribution to achieving the UK’s decarbonisation objectives just underlines the interest and enthusiasm in our membership for this agenda.
Here are some of the key things I took away from the conference:
A 10-point action plan for the 10-Point Plan
We’ve spoken to hundreds of business leaders in recent months and their assessment of the UK’s current status on the journey to net-zero is consistent: we’ve got world class ambition, but not yet a world class action plan to back it up. Without filling this gap we risk losing out on huge amounts of investment in technology and infrastructure. The government’s ’10-point plan for a Green Industrial Revolution’ sets out the right destination and prioritises the right themes but lacks detail on how to get there.
