The UK’s new Points-Based Immigration System (PBS) will come into full effect with the end of the transition period and the end of free movement on 1 January 2021. With just under 10 weeks to go, the government has now published the updated Immigration Rules which set out the full detail of the system, and they have also confirmed that the Skilled Worker route will open for applications on 1 December 2020.
The new system is based around the existing structures and processes of the current Tier 2 non-EU visa system and the principle of employer sponsorship is central to it. All businesses looking to hire a migrant worker from 2021 onwards will need to engage with the PBS. Earlier in the year, the government announced that it would be lowering the skills and salary thresholds as part of the move to the new system, following lobbying from the CBI in partnership with other employ
