Annual Conference: Business Secretary Alok Sharma highlights the government’s commitment to support business and create a revived and rejuvenated UK.
In his address to the CBI’s Annual Conference, the Secretary of State for Business, Rt Hon Alok Sharma MP spoke about how the government will work alongside businesses to unleash the UK’s potential, while continuing to provide unprecedented support through the coronavirus pandemic. Mr Sharma also paid tribute to Dame Carolyn Fairbairn on her five years as CBI Director-General.

Second National Lockdown and business support
Following the Prime Minister’s announcement on 31 October detailing government plans to introduce a second lockdown across England, the Business Secretary spoke about the underpinning rationale for further restrictions that will be implemented from Thursday 5 November, until Wednesday 2 December. While these measures will undoubtedly cause economic hardship in the immediate term, Mr Sharma argued this action will help control the virus, protect the NHS and speed the path to recovery
