CBI analysis of the Migration Advisory Committee’s influential report and next steps for government.
The independent Migration Advisory Committee has published its much anticipated 272-page report on salary thresholds and a points based system. This marks a key milestone in the development of a new immigration system which will impact businesses of every size and sector right across the UK.
The MAC’s publication follows the CBI, alongside over 30 other leading business organisations and trade associations, writing to the Home Secretary to outline employers priorities for a new immigration system.
What has the MAC recommended?
The MAC has made policy recommendations on the level of salary threshold and options for design of a new ‘points-based system’. But it was not asked to report on the temporary work route proposed by Theresa May’s previous government or whether a new system can be delivered in time for 1 January 2021.
