More ambition is needed to realise the benefits of sustainable aviation growth

The CBI’s recent response to the government Aviation Strategy made the view of members clear, stating that it does not do enough to practically set out how the UK will increase its global connectivity whilst meeting sustainability targets. The Aviation 2050 Green Paper aimed to identify the challenges and opportunities for aviation to 2050 and beyond, but in its response, the CBI was clear that the strategy does not go far enough. Through a more ambitious strategy, the aviation sector can both help grow the economy and tackle climate change.

With a renewed focus on global trade links, aviation will be pivotal to providing connectivity between the UK and international markets. The UK must therefore be able keep pace with its competitors, recognising that aviation does not happen in isolation, but in a global and highly competitive market.

Growing our links whilst also meeting environmental commitments presents a considerable challenge, and one that is
