Slow and steady progress towards reopening
For the vast majority of our Scottish members, it may not be ‘business as usual’, but it’s ‘business opening and doing its best under highly unusual circumstances.’ Like everyone else, I’m relieved to see COVID-19 restrictions easing slowly but surely. Confirmation from the First Minister that we’re still on track for 9 August is hugely welcome, particularly for those sectors that are only now emerging from pandemic hibernation.
It’s essential that the government now provides clear direction and confidence to the Scottish people that it is safe to get out and about again. Our travel industry in particular needs that support. But while things are moving in the right direction, we must remain vigilant, with vaccination key to getting daily lives, and the Scottish economy, back on track.
