The CBI calls for digital right to work checks following the delay of physical checks

On 20 April, the government announced the end to COVID-19 adjustments to the right to work scheme, meaning that employers would have been required to conduct physical right to work checks from 17 May. Following significant employer concern, the government has changed that decision. Employers are now required to conduct physical right to work checks from the 21 June.

This delay is welcome because it better aligns employer’s obligations with the government’s reopening roadmap in England. However, the CB
