An Audience with Northern Ireland's Political Leaders

With the Northern Ireland Assembly elections set to take place on 5 May, CBI members are invited to join us at Queen’s University for a morning of constructive engagement with our political leaders.  Chaired by BBC Northern Ireland’s Economics and Business Editor, John Campbell, this is a unique opportunity for members to influence and inform the business agenda of leading local politicians face to face.

At this in-person event we hope to explore each political party’s ambitions for economic growth post-May 2022 election. Despite the very challenging background, the CBI believes that Northern Ireland now has a unique opportunity to reset our economy and deliver an inclusive and sustainable economic recovery. We are very keen that any newly formed Executive will collaborate extensively with the business community so that together we can create a better Northern Ireland and raise local living standards.

The Panel:

  • Alliance Party: Stephen Farry MP, Deputy Leader
  • Democratic Unionist Party: Sir Jeffrey Donaldson MP, Party Leader
  • Sinn Féin: Conor Murphy, Finance Minister
  • Social Democratic & Labour Party: Claire Hanna MP
  • Ulster Unionist Party: Mike Nesbitt, Economy Spokesperson

Chair:

  • John Campbell, Economics and Business Editor, BBC Northern Ireland

Why attend?

  • Hear first-hand the business policy positions of our political leaders going into the Northern Ireland Assembly elections
  • Enjoy a unique opportunity to hear a debate with all five parties
  • Voice your hopes, economic expectations and concerns to those prospective policymakers
  • Connect with like-minded peers to grow your profile and business network.

As this event will be in the run up to the May election, the CBI will be taking steps to ensure this is in line with Electoral Commission guidance for hosting a political hustings. This event will be politically neutral and participating parties are all parties represented on the Northern Ireland Executive, who together won 85.5% of the seats at the last Assembly election.
