Geopolitical and Economic Update

As news headlines remain dominated by the unfolding situation in Ukraine, the CBI is supporting members with implementing the government’s economic sanctions and mapping out what the longer-term impacts could be for energy prices, supply chains, and the oil and gas sectors. Against this backdrop, we’re also publishing our spring statement submission on Tuesday; the latest staging post in our current campaign to Go for Growth.

Alongside the humanitarian crisis, the events of last week have raised questions about our economic resilience at an uncertain and volatile moment in world politics. Our belief is that long-term growth is the only way we can strengthen our economy to weather the global challenges we face. In this webinar, we’ll provide an update on this economic ambition and the actions the Treasury can implement to unlock a wave of private sector investment in the decade ahead.

Join Rain Newton-Smith (Chief Economist, CBI), Andy Wood OBE DL (Chief Executive, Adnams) and Giles Wilkes (Senior Research Fellow, Institute for Government) for an expert discussion on:

  • Responses to the situation in Ukraine, the impacts for businesses, and where to go to for further information and support
  • The case for higher economic growth, why it matters for levelling-up, decarbonisation and post-Brexit success, and the key policy asks the CBI is calling on the government to implement next month
  • How businesses can get involved in the campaign and be a part of our calls for change.

Webinar recordings are made available on the same day of broadcast between 16:00 and 17:00 and are also available to listen on-demand and on-the-go via Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Deezer, Castbox and Podcatcher. If you have signed up to the webinar, you will be sent a follow-up email with a link to the recording. You can also access all previous recordings on the CBI website.
