Can clusters drive growth in every region and nation of the UK?

Do you want to shape the private sector’s contribution to levelling up? Join Tony Danker, Director-General, CBI, George Freeman, Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, and Jo Bertram, Managing Director, Business & Wholesale, Virgin Media O2, alongside James Harding, Co-founder & Editor, Tortoise Media for the launch event of the CBI’s regional roadshow on economic clusters, in association with Tortoise Media.

Nowhere can be left behind in the quest for economic growth. Delivering growth in every place in the UK will be the determining factor in the success or failure of the government's levelling up agenda.

To do that, the CBI believes you need high value sectors, firms, skills and investment in every place. And the recipe for that is economic clusters. A concentration of firms co-located. Their ideas and innovations spurring each other on. An eco-system of start-ups and anchor institutions; colleges & universities; adjacent sectors coming to town.

This event will allow you to:

  • Discuss what clusters are, how to support them and how we deliver genuine economic growth in an area through clusters
  • Help shape the CBI’s Clusters Playbook
  • Get and share insights into cluster developments
  • Network and ask questions and share ideas with your peers.

This event is invite-only and will be a maximum of 2 hours, including time for networking. Tortoise Media will be facilitating this session and there will be a write up of the discussion, as well as film and audio used to create to resources for the Clusters Playbook, which will be built up as we undertake the roadshows.

Please note you will only be able to book the ticket as per your invitation.

What is a Think In?

A ThinkIn is not a panel discussion but a forum for civilised disagreement, designed to reach a better informed opinion based on the experience and expertise of everyone in the room. Together, we’ll aim to answer questions like: What is a cluster? What role do they play in the levelling up agenda? And how can businesses and policy makers work together to make them a success?
