Founder and CEO, Spacehive
As founder and CEO of Spacehive, Chris led the design and growth of the world's first crowdfunding platform for projects that improve the civic environment.
Spacehive's mission is to open up the complex civic space to new people, new ideas, and new sources of capital - creating a more inclusive, empowering, and financially efficient way of improving local places.
To date £20m has been raised for hundreds of projects across the UK: from sprucing up community gardens and starting street markets, to restoring lidos or creating nature reserves on old railway lines. And since the pandemic, the platform has seen a 300% increase in people helping to fund improvements to their local area.
Spacehive has the highest campaign success rate of any crowdfunding platform in the UK and has built partnerships with tens of councils, foundations and companies, who back projects alongside the crowd - from the Mayor of London to the Arts Council and BT.
Chris cut his teeth as a journalist at The Sunday Times where he led on coverage of Boris Johnson’s mayoralty and the architecture and planning brief. He also ran international investigations for the award-winning Insight unit.
Chris has been interviewed by a range of TV and radio programmes, newspapers and magazines about the power of technology to transform communities, from Sky News and the BBC's Today programme, to WIRED, The New Scientist, The Guardian and many others.
