Higher Education/Further Education Network (EE/EM/WM)

The further and higher education network provides a platform to discuss and promote the contribution of universities, colleges, and independent training providers to prosperity. The forum provides regular opportunities for members to feed into wide-ranging CBI policy, aimed at championing the role for both HE and FE in supporting the UK economy to thrive, as well as a peer network for the sectors to discuss issues of value.

This session will focus on the state of adult education and lifelong learning and explore the latest CBI report on the UK’s reskilling challenge. This report, set for publication on 14 October, reveals fresh evidence on future economic demand, concluding that the UK will need to invest an additional £130bn over the next decade to prevent skills gaps and job shortages. Without bold action technological change and automation could deepen inequality and result in an ‘unjust transition’ to new ways of working.

Our report sets out a 2030 vision for a revolution in reskilling, with further and higher education providers at its heart. We are now looking to CBI membership to help us shape how we deliver upon this ambition.

The benefits of attending include:

  • Influence CBI thinking on reskilling and the role for providers within this
  • Gain fresh data and insight from the latest CBI research to help to plan for future skills demand, as well as have any questions answered by CBI policy colleagues
  • Engage and share ideas with fellow experts within the higher education and further education sectors.

Who should attend?

This event is open to anyone working in providers of further and higher education or training in CBI membership, including:

  • Vice Chancellors, Provosts, and Principals
  • Policy leads
  • Business and external engagement colleagues
  • HR professionals
  • Financial directors
