Member Consultation on Shaping the future of flexible working

The government has communicated its plans to make a series of legislative changes to existing rules around flexible working, and the CBI want to get your input as part of our response to the consultation.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is consulting on proposals to reform the Flexible Working Regulations 2014. The consultation – Making Flexible Working the Default – aims to introduce a series of legislative changes that will impact employees’ rights and businesses’ legal responsibilities.

The consultation has proposals that broadly fit under these five categories:

  1. Making the Right to Request Flexible working a day one right
  2. Assessing whether the eight business reasons for refusing a Request remain valid
  3. Requiring the employer to suggest alternative flexible working arrangements where possible
  4. Allowing individuals to make a formal flexible working request more than once per year
  5. Improving the take-up of temporary arrangement requests

For more information on the detail of the consultation and our previous work on flexible working, please read this CBI article.

How can I get involved?

We will host a member roundtable this month to get your views on how the government’s proposals will impact your business and what you’d like to see from the amended legislation. This roundtable will be hybrid giving you the option to join in person or virtually.
