Influence and shape the landscape for decarbonisation

As the UK accelerates its transition to a net zero economy opportunities are emerging. In recent years, decarbonisation has moved from a threat, to a risk, to an imperative, and now to a genuine source of business value. Businesses that act early and decisively can access fast-growing markets at home and abroad, attract the best talent and a lower cost of capital.

Join us to influence the CBI’s actions to business and government over the coming year, as we take a deep dive into business’ role in supporting net zero through the reduction of carbon footprints, as well as how the policy environment can evolve to encourage higher levels of business investment in the critical years ahead.

In this session, you will hear from the CBI and fellow business leaders about the environment and opportunities for decarbonisation in the UK, and feed in your view on the key challenges and blockers to progress. You will also have the opportunity to shape success criteria, share ideas for what government and business could do differently, and highlight your own good practice as we look to profile where business is already leading the way.

Hear from:

  • Mike Thompson, Chief Economist at Climate Change Committee who will set out how the UK is progressing on its journey to net zero and the areas in which policies might need to change to accelerate the transition
  • Liv Garfield, CEO at Severn Trent, on the responsibility of businesses to play their part in combating climate change and her experience in setting and acting towards a net zero target.

Why you should attend:

  • Highlight your own good practice as we look to profile examples of where business is leading the way
  • Discuss the criteria for success and KPIs you think we should be setting in order to benefit your business’ journey to transforming the UK economy
  • Voice your priorities and feed into us what you expect from the government and any policy-specific questions that you have.

Sessions are open to all CBI members. We encourage businesses to attend as many sessions as are relevant and welcome multiple delegates from the same firm as the input shapes the CBI’s workplan for 2022.

The sessions:

Tuesday 05 October: Skills and Inclusion

Tuesday 12 October: Innovation

Tuesday 12 October: Trade

Wednesday 13 October: Health
