Supporting young people through the pandemic

Young people have faced unprecedented disruption to their education over the course of the last year and concerns regarding the longer-term impact of the pandemic on their wellbeing, future employment and economic prospects have grown.

Join the CBI, Qualifications Wales and representatives from further education for a discussion on the impact of the cancellation of exams this summer on young people in Wales, and what this means for employers both in the short and long-term.

Our panel of experts will include Leonie White, Director, Communications and Engagement, Qualifications Wales, an employer and CAVC Principal, Kay Martin who will discuss:

  • How grades and assessments will be determined by schools and colleges
  • How the approach will protect learners' wellbeing and progression
  • The employer's role in supporting these learners as they progress into the workplace.

Young people have faced uncertainty and anxiety about making their next step into employment or further education. As our economy begins to recover and grow it will be imperative for Welsh business, government, and the education sector to prioritise support for new entrants to the workforce to ensure that we have the qualifications and skills necessary to drive a prosperous economy that does not leave this generation behind.

More speakers to be announced shortly.

Qualifications Wales make sure that qualifications meet the reasonable needs of learners in Wales, and promote confidence in qualifications and the qualification system.
