The top issues that firms in the capital believe the new Mayor must prioritise include investment in transport networks (76%), improvements to the housing offer (59%) and the need for effective strategic planning decisions (41%).

The survey also showed the impact the current housing crisis is having on business, with almost two thirds of (57%) citing housing costs and availability as having a negative impact on the recruitment of entry-level staff and 50% of firms offering premium wages/retention payments to attract and retain staff.

On infrastructure, 70% think that the increased strain on the capital’s infrastructure will have a negative impact on their business. The top infrastructure projects that businesses would like to see prioritised include improvements to the road network (56%), as well as better digital connectivity (49%).

The London Business Survey provides a barometer of business views and will be used by the CBI as a comprehensive lobbying tool throughout our conversations with key government ministers and mayoral candidates over the months ahead.
