Construction industry leaders tackle future challenges

The CBI has asked a group of future leaders in the construction industry to develop recommendations to improve collaboration and digitisation within the sector.

Construction industry leaders tackle future challenges

The group, comprising representatives from right across the supply chain, from design to sub–contractors, is expected to report to the CBI’s Construction Council, a 35-strong forum of chief executives, in November.

Once agreed the recommendations will then be sent to members of the Construction Leadership Council to help inform its work, and relevant ministers.

The Future Leaders’ Group consists of 18 rising stars under the age of 35, drawn from major construction firms to small and medium sized businesses. The group represent a wide spectrum of jobs from across the construction industry, including construction products, contractors and services.

Richard Howson, Chief Executive of Carillion and Chair of the CBI Construction Council, said:

“Convening the next generation of construction leaders, who will bring a fresh, young perspective to the challenges the industry faces has the potential to move the dial forward within the industry, delivering practical, implementable solutions that can ensure better collaboration across supply chains.

“Their hands-on industry experience, alongside support from leading figures from within the industry and the CBI makes this a unique and exciting project.”

Mark Dittmer-Odell, CBI Head of Construction, said:

“The CBI is delighted to bring together an exciting group of emerging leaders, handpicked by their respective boards to bring a fresh approach to challenges of how the industry can collaborate more effectively.

“Encouraging innovation across the construction industry will help firms to meet the challenges presented by the Government’s infrastructure aims on housing, roads, rail and nuclear.

“This group can complement the work that is being done by the Construction Leadership Council by providing new perspectives on collaboration and digitisation gleaned from sites up and down the country.”
