Paul Drechsler Sunday Times interview

In his first interview as CBI President, with the Sunday Times, Paul Drechsler highlighted the importance of staying in a reformed EU.

“All the evidence I’ve seen basically says there’s a three to five percentage point in GDP – about £3,000 per household – value to the economy of being in Europe”, he said.

“A reformed Europe is important because there things we can get out of it that are really good for everybody in Britain, like freer markets in a number of areas like digital, like a trade agreement with the US so we can reduce tariffs.”

Mr Drechsler also commented on the new National Living Wage, announced in the Budget, saying he worried about the impact it could have on small enterprises.
