Westminster Roundup

A busy fortnight sees the CBI meeting senior figures in both the government and opposition.

Westminster Roundup

Director of people and skills Neil Carberry met minister for disabled people, work and health Penny Mordaunt MP. Their discussion focused on how business and government can work together to create inclusive workplaces that deliver opportunity for all, but particularly for people with long-term health conditions and disabilities. Encouragingly, the minister recognised the need for strong business leaders who champion the importance of diversity, as well as a need to profile success and share good practice around what works.

As the Parliamentary joint committee on human rights has turned its attention to businesses for the rest of this Parliament, the CBI met with committee Chair Harriet Harman to discuss liability for practice in complex, global supply chains and how to effectively eradicate both forced and child labour.

Elsewhere, we held a briefing session with Labour MPs including Shadow DExEU Minister Paul Blomfield to explain business priorities for a new migration system.
