Consultation on UK government engagement with business and civil society on the TCA
The UK government has launched a summer consultation on engagement with business and civil society groups on the UK-EU Trade & Cooperation (TCA) and the CBI would like to hear your views.
The Domestic Advisory Group and Civil Society Forum are two forums mandated by the TCA for the UK government to engage with business and society relating to the TCA and issues from trade to transport, aviation safety and enforcement.
As the UK government shapes the new relationship with the EU and implements the TCA, these channels of communication will be critical for ensuring the voice of business is represented. The CBI will be responding to this consultation, so please get in touch with Nicola Hetherington with any views or feedback.
Approaching end of staged customs controls – ensure your business is ready
The path to the full implementation of the TCA at the border is nearing its end, with the end of the staged customs controls approaching where EU imports to Great Britain will face full customs declarations and SPS (sanitary and phytosanitary) checks. Businesses impacted by this will need to ensure that they, their intermediaries, and their supply chains are ready for the changes that will take place.
Key upcoming dates include:
- 1 October: pre-notification requirements for Products of Animal Origin (POAO), low-risk animal by-products not for human consumption (ABP), and High Risk Food Not Of Animal Origin (HRFNAO) come into force. Health certificate requirements for POAO and ABP will also come into force
- 1 January 2022: physical SPS checks for animal and plant products will take place at Border Control Posts. Full customs declarations for imports will be required, the option for the delayed declaration scheme comes to an end. Safety and Security Declarations for imports will be required.
For full information and details, see updated UK government guidance. The CBI will also be hosting a webinar at the beginning of September to discuss the changes to EU customs and what your business needs to know (see below).
