Your monthly update from the UK and International Competitiveness teams at the CBI.
It may be summer, but international politics stops for no-one. The new government, and particularly the new Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, have already made some big announcements about the future of international trade and brought the CBI and one of our members on his first major international visit. Through it all, as ever, we’re continuing to raise your voice and interests at the highest levels.
A new trade strategy
Perhaps the biggest news just before the government’s first recess was Jonathan Reynolds’s announcement of a new trade strategy, set to align with the planned industrial strategy. That’s a great step that closely tracks a key ask from our business manifesto.
As the strategy is developed, we will keep working with teams across the government to find out where investment will sit within it, and we will keep feeding into this to give the new government the input and advice to get this right.
