CBI comments on HMRC Brexit planning

Nicole Sykes, CBI Head of EU Negotiations, said:

“Auto-enrolling the tens of thousands of businesses who do not yet have an EORI number is a sensible measure from the Government.

“But it’s no silver bullet and it’s just one of hundreds of things that need to be done if the very worst effects of a no deal are to be mitigated.

“This step by the Government will reduce the risk of lorries turning up at ports without one of the necessary pieces of paperwork. But the web of short and long-term consequences of no deal go well beyond this, which are both complex and damaging.

“That’s why the Government must put just as much time and effort into securing a deal.”
