CBI commits to working alongside the next South Yorkshire Mayor
Detailing how the next Mayor can ensure that South Yorkshire remains a thriving region to live, work, and do business.
On 5 May, the people of South Yorkshire will head to the polls to elect the next Mayor of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA).
Both the region, and nation, are facing a multitude of headwinds, including the cost of living and doing business, ongoing COVID-19recovery efforts, inflation, and geopolitical instability – all making for a challenging environment in which to do business.
However, South Yorkshire has proven its ability to whether previous shocks. With the region at a crossroads, decisions made by the next mayor will have profound, and long-lasting implications for employees and employers alike – as well as the region as a whole.
The CBI and its members are committed the working alongside the next Mayor to ensure South Yorkshire remains a thriving region in which to live, work and do business. To this end, we have unveiled our South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Business Manifesto, which lays out a series of policy recommendations that we believe will help ensure this goal is achieved.
These recommendations are presented across five key policy areas, including:
- Skills
- Housing
- Infrastructure
- Devolution
- Climate Change
This manifesto draws on the views of CBI members based in the region, setting out policies that senior business leaders believe can drive economic growth, while enabling South Yorkshire to maximise its potential, and provide the basis for future engagement with the next Mayor.
With regional politicians, the public and private sector all working together, the CBI believes South Yorkshire can maximise its potential. And business stands ready to play their part in this agenda, by taking forward the priorities within this manifesto.
