Across the region myself and Nikki continue to have many discussions with members about the challenge of recruiting and retaining the right people. So I know members will be pleased to hear that the CBI have just released a new impactful report; Getting young people ‘work ready’ - it’s a vision for how education should prepare young people for the modern world and forms part of our on-going campaign to help your business to close the skills gap.   
Furthermore, the CBI report, Great Job, reveals the barriers standing in the way of great business practice and the habits your business can adopt to overcome them. I highly recommend you give it a read.
We have many policy initiatives underway that members will want to influence, you’ll find them all listed on My CBI, but can I please draw your attention to these three…
  1. The Brexit team have launched an emergency consultation into the latest proposals to avoid the Irish backstop. We urgently require your views to help ensure the proposals are as realistic as possible, in order to make progress on the Withdrawal Agreement. Please get involved ASAP. The consultation closes on 8 July.
  2. As the government proposes new safety regimes for safer buildings, the CBI wants to know any key ideas, concern's and messages you may have regarding the proposal. Get involved.
  3. There is still time to help shape the Industrial Strategy in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, share your views with our regional policy lead Mark.

NEW! Training

Many firms in the region are currently growing their internal skill sets so they can directly influence the government and key stakeholders. If you’re starting out on that journey or you are simply puzzled about how policy making actually works then the CBI training team are offering a new one day workshop to help.
