LexisNexis Risk Solutions redesign their office spaces to enhance their EVP
As work from home guidance in the UK has been lifted, many firms have opted for staff to return on a hybrid basis between the home and the office.
LexisNexis Risk Solutions prepared for this by redesigning their office space to enhance their Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and make their firm a more attractive place to work, both for existing employees and prospective candidates.
LexisNexis Risk Solutions is a Cardiff-based global data and analytics company. Due to the tech industry’s growth outpacing its labour supply, LexisNexis Risk Solutions have been in competition for talent with their competitors for software engineers, UX designers, data analytics specialists and machine learning technicians.
Designing an attractive workplace is a competitive business asset
LexisNexis started by asking its employees what it was they wanted and needed from their work spaces, and used the feedback to implement small changes incrementally. Investing in an attractive workplace recognises the importance of investing in their staff, placing their people at the core of the organisation. To improve attraction and retention, LexisNexis Risk Solutions invested over £250,000 in redesigning their office spaces. Employees’ workspaces went from typical banks of partitioned desks to more open spaces with new rooms, including a fitness room, prayer room, collaboration spaces, shower facilities plus upgraded kitchen facilities as part of the transformation.
Hybrid workspaces spark collaboration and creativity that produces better business results
Hybrid offices are designed to cater for collaborative activities. LexisNexis Risk Solutions invested in more workshop areas with whiteboards, raised bar tables and bar style lighting to foster effective creativity and brainstorming ideas among colleagues. This was done to ensure that when staff are in the office, they can prioritise work that is collaborative and interactive. This also meant that during an increased portion of the week staff work from home or remotely, they can prioritise work that requires higher concentration flows and focus.
More investment in workspaces is likely to result in higher staff retention rates
By redesigning their workspaces, LexisNexis Risk Solutions showed that they care about the daily experience of its employees. This is best measured by their annual employee opinion survey, where the company has bettered their results in 49 of the 50 questions posed. This shows that the changes made were welcomed and supported by employees, leading them to offer a more attractive employee value proposition to existing employees and retaining their existing talent.
Quote from CEO
Over the past couple of years, COVID-19 has caused a blurring of the lines that preciously separated our offices from our home life. During this period, we have not only learnt that it is possible to operate with significantly increased flexibility while supporting the needs of both employer and employee, but have also come to accept that we all excel and collaborate far more effectively, when in environments that are enjoyable to be in. Our spaces must be more than simply a place to sit while typing on a keyboard; our spaces must excite us – must encourage us to be better.— Steve Elliot, Managing Director, LexisNexis Risk Solutions
