The break-up for the summer holiday creates an opportunity to reflect on the year so far and refocus energy on the coming months. We’ve been doing just that here in the North East, and it certainly feels like we’ve made strides forward, but certain key challenges continue to dominate and occupy the mind.
I'm also excited about our Autumn schedule, and in particular CBI's Conference,Economic Growth - The Energy Opportunity, on the 9 October. The event will focus on how the north can lead the UK’s efforts to compete in the growing international market for low carbon technologies. Members benefit from a complimentary ticket.

North East – Japan relationship blossoms
Last month the CBI were delighted to welcome the Japanese Ambassador to the North East. Not only as keynote speaker at the CBI Annual Dinner, but also so he could see and hear first-hand about the amazing developments at the Helix and the National Innovation Centre for Data and National Innovation Centre for Ageing.
A huge thanks to Newcastle University, Newcastle City Council and Invest Newcastle –we were thrilled to plant a Cherry Blossom tree in honour of the visit on the site as a permanent reminder of the relationship.
