The Business Framework for Health
Learn more about the Business Framework for Health and how it can support firms like yours to improve workforce health.
What is the Business Framework for Health?
The Framework’s core purpose is to measure business’ contribution to health and to promote the role of business in creating a healthier nation - recognising that health is the foundation of wellbeing and economic growth. It aims to showcase what good business-led health interventions look like, detailing the benefits to both workforce health and business growth.
The Framework is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It offers a practical tool to compliment the Environmental, Social and Governance strategies within businesses, and centres around three pillars:
- Business influence on workforce health
- Business influence on health via products and services sold
- The external influence of business on the communities in which they operate and the wider environment/society

How can businesses use the framework?
The Framework enables organisations to benchmark themselves in a continuous process to improve employee health and wellbeing.
It helps you:
- Review the evidence for all levels of stakeholders to support change.
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses in your business’ readiness and capacity to reduce health inequalities through business-led health interventions.
- Monitor progress over time, making changes to stay ahead of consumer opinion and public policy changes.
How does the Framework aid business?
The Framework aims to help businesses in four key ways:
- It provides a collection of real-world data and evidence to measure, monitor and help with your business’ implementation of the Framework
- It offers ongoing benchmarking and improvement support to businesses.
- Development of partnerships that eliminate barriers between public and private sectors
- Increase investment into ‘healthy lives’ supported by ESG agendas.
