The Export Strategy laid the foundation, but will it deliver?
The CBI will work with the Department for International Trade on turning words into action
What is the Export Strategy?
Published this week, the Export Strategy builds on the Department for International Trade’s 2018 strategy, with a mix of new and existing initiatives including:
- Export Support Service (ESS): expanding to all markets, with a single portal for export queries
- Export Academy and Champions: extended reach, increasing upskilling and mentoring
- Tradeshow Programme: refreshed to maximise showcasing of UK products and services
- Trade In Services Council (TISC): called for by the CBI to champion services across all sub-sectors, including services associated with goods trade.
Why is the export agenda important?
The CBI is championing exports as a vehicle for growth, innovation, and resilience for businesses. As the economy emerges from the pandemic, finding new sources of revenue and tapping into growth markets around the world is an important venture for businesses of all sizes and sectors. The government is breaking down market access barriers and strategically targeting high growth markets such as the Indo-Pacific region – adding valuable opportunities for UK firms.
We still urge for solutions to short-term challenges with the EU and the global supply chain, whilst keeping focus on the competitiveness of the UK economy in future.
Exports in 2022
We must maximise the reach of export support, champion this agenda in Whitehall, and focus on the UK’s international economic strength.
The measures set out in the Export Strategy are good resources for companies, but only a starting point. The government must now work with business across the country to ensure its delivery.
Our Seize the Moment campaign will support your business growth and expansion plans alongside the resources provided by the Department for International Trade. We are increasing our digital offering, running mentoring sessions, and on hand to help you expand internationally.
